She may have had the role of Posh Spice during her Spice Girl years, but in 2019 she has taken over Mel C’s Sporty Spice persona. Victoria Beckham has always been serious about exercise and keeping fit. She indulges in two hours a day, seven days a week, combining the treadmill with the Tracy Anderson Method. However, she has now turned her passion into a career idea and is designing her own athleticwear collection in collaboration with the popular brand Reebok.
“Every time I launch something new, it’s because it’s something I want in my life,” Beckham explained while shooting for the campaign in New York. “I’ve wanted to put a trainer in my collection for a long, long time, but it’s something that’s very specialized—I had to do it with a brand that had the technical experience and the know-how.” Victoria has always been a fan of the sports brand since way back in the nineties before she even became a Spice Girl. This aided her decision to go for the more retro colors of sunset orange and her classic favorite shade of camel. The logo merges Reebok’s familiar vector but with VB initials.
The products range from functional sports bras and seamless leggings to sleeveless hoodies. She even has a pair of polished basketball-inspired tailored snap pants. This seems less surprising when understanding that the Beckhams were huge LA Lakers fans from their days living in California. “I expect a lot out of my workout clothing,” Beckham says, “But I also expect it to be able to carry me from the gym through the day. It’s hard to find things that feel cool and not too mumsy. This has a strong fashion edge—and I can’t wait to start wearing it.”
What makes her collection even better is that most of the line is unisex. She has even used her three boys and one little girl as market research. Beckham explained, “With Cruz [her third child] I know every Thursday morning there’s a Supreme drop. So when he says to me, ‘I want those shoes’ or ‘I want that hoodie,’ I take that as a compliment.”
