With filming on Game of Thrones may have wrapped in January, many of the cast members are only beginning to make their rounds on the press circuit. The ever-gorgeous Sophie Turner had a recent interview with InStyle magazine where she revealed a few of her beauty secrets from her Game of Thrones years. While Turner herself has consistently sported model-like looks on the red carpet, there was a much less glamorous side of playing Sansa Stark.

While discussing the directive that most of the male cast members were not allowed to wash their hair while filming the hit series, Sophie revealed that several seasons into the show, she was also barred from washing her hair.

She explained, “For the first few seasons I was allowed to wash my hair because I was an aristocratic young girl, but toward season five they started asking me to not wash my hair, and it was really disgusting. Now I wear a wig so I can wash my hair whenever I want, which is nice. But yes, for a couple of years I was living with pretty greasy hair.”

Sophie went on to say that as it turned out, not being able to wash her hair for a while was far from the worst hair experience she had while working on Thrones. Dying her hair constantly in order to play Sansa took its toll. The star added in an interview with Glamour, “A few years ago I was trying to go back from red to blonde, and it destroyed my hair to the point that I had to use a wig for Game of Thrones. They wouldn’t let me dye it back red or my hair would’ve fallen out.” These days, she’s spending her time repairing all of the damage that Thrones inflicted on her precious locks.
