This year, the Golden Globes were held a little differently. They featured a virtual red carpet, and while people might have thought that the Internet’s democratizing effect on the fashion industry might stop them from showing off some of their best looks, most celebrities definitely gave the carpet an alternate view.
Virtual Golden Globes
The iconic duo, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, hosted the award show this year, and they certainly showed off on their own. Even though people were phoned in through video calls from all over the world in order to celebrate the best people in film and television, the stars didn’t disappoint. The Old Hollywood glamour was a continuous theme for the Golden Globes this year.
The Old Hollywood motif was interpreted by the stars in many different ways. Some stars chose to keep things chic and straightforward. These stars included Andra Day who showed off in her jazz age decadence as she wore a piece from Virginie Viard’s 2021 Spring and Summer collection.
On the other hand, Regina King wore an asymmetrical column gown that was designed by Louis Vuitton’s Nicolas Ghesquière. It had tons of sequins on it, and though it was glitzy, it wasn’t the least bit fussy. It perfectly embodied the celebratory spirit of the Golden Globes.
Some of the best-dressed looks of the night are featured below:
1. Anya Taylor Joy
Anya Taylor Joy, the star from The Queen’s Gambit, took home the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Limited Series. Not only did she win, but she also left people speechless with her dress. She was dressed in Dior Haute Couture; think of her look as something similar to Keira Knightley’s in Atonement. It was a glittering forest-green slip dress with an enrobing dress coat.
2. Margot Robbie
Margot Robbie showed off her looks on the 2021 Golden Globes red carpet wearing Chanel. It was a black-and-white print dress with an off-the-shoulder detail. There was also a surprise slit that was thigh-high.
As an ambassador for Chanel, Robbie paired the gown with a logo-bearing leather Chanel belt, diamond Chanel earrings, a matching ring from the brand, and a shoulder bag with the signature jewel-encrusted entwined Cs.
3. Cynthia Erivo
Cynthia Erivo showed off wearing a bold-colored Valentino Haute Couture gown. The electric green, tea-length dress has extreme proportions and suited her perfectly. She paired the dress with platforms that were tall enough for Lady Gaga to notice her.
4. Satchel Lee
Satchel Lee attended the 2021 Golden Globes with her brother, Jackson. She wore a custom Gucci dress that resembles much of her own personal style.
5. Jackson Lee
Jackson Lee also wore Gucci to match his sister, Satchel Lee. The custom look that was designed by Alessandro Michele from Gucci also included a few personal styles from the star. The accessories and some special touches made his own style stand out.
6. Andra Day
Andra Day wore Chanel from the spring couture line that definitely highlighted her figure. The sequin macramé bodice was something similar to a gown that was worn by Billie Holiday in the past. Day ended up winning Best Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in The United States vs. Billie Holiday.
7. Josh O’Connor
The famous actor that is known for his role in The Crown, Josh O’Connor, wore a custom suit made by Loewe. He ended up winning the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a TV Series or Drama for his role as Prince Charles.
