Vivian Eyo-Ephraim is the new swimsuit model for ASOS Curve, and people are applauding the online retailer for featuring the plus-size model in their brand. ASOS’ new feature is to show the same article of clothing on models of different body types, and Vivian is among those models who are representing body positivity and representation for the retailer.
Speaking about how she got into modeling, Vivian said it was because of her mum. “She was like why don’t you get into modeling like you do commercials and acting and things like that, and she was like yeah, just do it.” Fortunately, Vivian’s mom was right, and her daughter took on her advice. “I applied to a competition on StarNow that would have won me a contract with Bridge Models, which it did, I did win it, so that’s how it all started,” explained Vivian.
As for modeling for ASOS, Vivian expressed that she was nervous when she got the email for a casting at the online retailer but was not going to miss out on the opportunity. “I just went there, did what I usually do, just stand there, do my best, take my pictures, and be as confident as I can which I think I did well, ’cause I got it in the end.”
Vivian has since been praised by shoppers who have shown their recognition for the model across social media. Even in person, the rising model has said that people approach her and give positive feedback about her work. As for the future of modeling, Vivian explained that she wants it to be completely inclusive.
“There shouldn’t be categories as to plus-size model or normal model, or this model, that model, I think it should just be that person is a model, regardless of whatever it is they look like, what shape it is, what size, how tall, how short they are, if I had the power to, everyone would be a model.”
